BYD’s July 2026 performance defies easy summary. The Shenzhen-based automaker reported 419,211 total sales, up 21.8% year-over-year — a figure that exceeds the combined deliveries of eight major Chinese EV startups, including Xiaomi, Li Auto, Leapmotor, NIO, XPeng, AITO, Zeekr, and Deepal.
But the most striking number is not the total — it is the overseas figure. BYD’s international sales exploded 124.3% to 179,841 units, now representing 42.9% of total volume. A company that once depended almost entirely on the Chinese market is now generating nearly half its revenue from abroad.
Fangchengbao: BYD’s Premium Breakout
The breakout story of the month is Fangchengbao, BYD’s rugged off-road-oriented sub-brand. It delivered 41,213 units, surging 190.6% year-over-year to set an all-time monthly record. The Tai 7 box SUV drove the surge — its PHEV variant sold 17,820 units (its 10th consecutive month as China’s best-selling box-style SUV), while the pure-electric Flash Charge version added roughly 9,500 units.
Fangchengbao’s success in the ¥200,000–¥400,000 segment — previously dominated by joint ventures — proves BYD’s multi-brand strategy is working far beyond the mass market.
Overseas: The 124% Pivot
July’s 179,841 overseas units mean BYD sold more cars outside China in a single month than the entire additional domestic volume compared to the prior year. Cumulative H1 2026 overseas sales reached 969,208 units, putting BYD on track to surpass 1 million annual exports by August.
Key growth corridors include Southeast Asia (Thailand factory at full capacity), Brazil (local factory ramping), Europe (registrations climbing despite tariffs), and the Middle East (UAE and Saudi Arabia emerging as high-volume markets).
