Huawei’s Stelato G9 Aims at 500K RMB Premium Bracket, Yu Chengdong Confirms
A day after the official photo reveal, Huawei executive director Yu Chengdong put a price target on the new Stelato G9. Speaking to reporters in Beijing on June 17, Yu said the rugged-format SUV — the first of its kind from the Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA) — is “benchmarked against the 500,000 RMB-class premium SUV segment,” locking in expectations that had been swirling since the model’s MIIT filing leaked.
Decoding the “500K-Class” Statement
In Chinese auto-industry shorthand, “50万级” usually means a 450,000–600,000 RMB band, or roughly $62,000–$82,800. That puts the Stelato G9 directly opposite the Li Auto L9 (459,800 RMB), the AITO M9 (479,800 RMB) and the upper trims of GWM’s Tank 700 Hi4-T. It is also a notable step up for the Stelato brand, whose existing S9 sedan and S9T wagon top out at 568,000 RMB.
The G9’s appeal at this price relies on an unusual combination of hardware: a 728 km CLTC pure-electric BEV variant on a 120 kWh “Giant Whale” pack, a 1,300+ km EREV alternative with 312 km of EV-only range, HUAWEI ADS 5.0 with the new 896-line LiDAR plus 4D millimetre-wave radar, twin-chamber air suspension, electromagnetic dampers and ±8° rear-wheel steering. Five- and six-seat layouts will both be offered.
The Battle Above 450K RMB
If Yu’s target holds, dealers will need to position the G9 against five identifiable benchmarks at launch. Li Auto’s L9 Max is EREV-only and has now passed 280,000 cumulative deliveries; the AITO M9 — Stelato’s own HIMA stablemate — sits at roughly 285,000 cumulative units; the Tank 700 Hi4-T plays the body-on-frame off-road card; BYD’s quad-motor Yangwang U8 sits a tier higher at 1.098 million RMB; and imported Land Rover Defender 130 / Mercedes G450 land between 980K and 1,800K RMB. Stelato’s differentiator is software-first: the G9 is the only entry shipping with HUAWEI ADS 5.0 from day one, alongside the freshly facelifted Maextro S800 GD and the AITO M9 2026.
Production and Launch Cadence
Yu confirmed the launch window remains Q3 2026, with production at BAIC’s Beijing plant, pre-orders opening in late August and first customer deliveries in September or October. BEV trims will ship first, with EREV variants following 60-90 days later — the same staged playbook BYD used for the Sealion 08. For overseas readers, the 500K-RMB benchmark also sets a clear reference for any future export pricing, most likely starting in Australia, the Middle East and selected European markets from 2027.
