BYD Sealion 08 Puts Megawatt Charging and DiSus-A Into the Sub-RMB 250,000 Sedan Band

BYD’s July launch of the Sealion 08 mid-large sedan is not really a story about six trims or a 196,900 RMB entry price. It is about what BYD has decided to bake into standard equipment at that price. Megawatt-class flash charging, an 800V electrical architecture, DiSus-A air suspension on mid-trims, DiPilot Tianshen-B ADAS and a 20-channel Devialet audio system are all being pushed into the sub-RMB 250,000 sedan segment on a single Ocean-network flagship. That combination has not existed at this price point before.

The 92.1 kWh AWD flagship pairs BYD’s second-generation blade battery with 1,500 kW Megawatt flash charging — a first for a BYD production sedan.

Six Trims, Two Powertrains, One Standard-Kit Ceiling

The Sealion 08 lineup spans 196,900–239,900 RMB (~$27,200–$33,100 at 7.25 CNY/USD) across two powertrains. The DM-i plug-in hybrid ladder has three trims topping out at a 300 km WLTC EV-mode range on a 45.36 kWh pack — the largest PHEV-mode battery in the sub-RMB 200,000 mid-large segment. The 08 EV pure-electric ladder runs 775 km CLTC on a 76.7 kWh LFP pack in single-motor form and 905 km on the 92.1 kWh pack; the 92.1 kWh dual-motor AWD flagship gives up range for a 785 km rating and BYD’s 1,500 kW Megawatt flash charging paired with the second-generation blade battery.

The Megawatt Charging Bet, Now Below RMB 240,000

The Sealion 08 is the first BYD production sedan to ship Megawatt-class flash charging, with BYD claiming “five minutes for 400 km of range” on its proprietary flash-charge network. The infrastructure is currently scaling across Tier-1 and Tier-2 Chinese cities and is designed as a retention mechanism: Sealion 08 owners who depend on fast charging get a structural advantage using BYD’s own stations. Standard-fit gear across the six trims is unusually thick — 50 W wireless phone charging, 20-channel Devialet audio, front seats heated / ventilated / massaged, second-row heated and ventilated, ambient lighting and DiPilot Tianshen-B ADAS on every trim, with DiSus-A air suspension and rear-axle steering standard on mid and top trims.

Priced Against Tesla Model S at One-Third the Sticker

Against Tesla Model S (RMB 680,000-plus), the Sealion 08 offers broadly comparable range and charging performance for roughly one-third of the sticker. Against NIO ET7 (RMB 300,000–400,000), it trades battery-swap flexibility for a lower entry point. Against Xiaomi SU7 Max (RMB 299,900–350,000), it undercuts on price while stacking Megawatt flash charging and DiSus-A on the option list. For the wider read on how the Sealion 08 fits BYD’s 2026 Ocean-network flagship push, the DM-i-vs-EV buyer split and the RMB 12,000 air-suspension entry-trim option, iEVChina’s Sealion 08 launch deep dive walks through the trim ladder, the paid options list and the competitive positioning against Zeekr 001 and Xiaomi SU7 Max.
