Chery Automobile has done what no Chinese carmaker has ever done before: ship more than 200,000 vehicles overseas in a single month. The company reported 202,533 exports in July 2026, up 70.1% year-over-year, accounting for nearly three-quarters of its total group sales of 276,820 units.
This is not a one-off spike. Chery has now set new single-month export records for five consecutive months, climbing from 170,000 units in March to 202,533 in July. Year-to-date exports stand at 1,146,350 units, putting the automaker on pace to cross 2 million annual exports for the first time.
NEV Exports Nearly Double
Chery’s new energy vehicle business is accelerating even faster than its overall export growth. July NEV sales hit 129,067 units, surging 97.5% year-over-year. The NEV penetration rate within Chery’s sales mix has climbed to 46.6%, up from below 30% just a year ago.
The multi-brand approach — spanning iCAR, OMODA, JAECOO, and Jetour — is clearly resonating across diverse markets. The JAECOO 7 became the monthly best-seller in the UK, while the JAECOO 5 topped Indonesia’s EV SUV category.
Europe: The Strategic Prize
Perhaps the most telling data point is Chery’s European performance. In H1 2026, the company sold 174,000 units across 24 European countries, up 212% year-over-year. NEV models alone accounted for 86,000 European units — a 385% increase.
To navigate EU tariffs on Chinese-made EVs, Chery is ramping up localized manufacturing at plants in Vietnam, Spain, and Argentina, shifting from pure CBU exports toward CKD assembly — a critical strategic pivot.
Fortune 500 Debut
July also marked Chery’s first appearance on the Fortune Global 500 list, ranking at No. 383 — the only new Chinese mainland entrant this year. Global cumulative sales surpassed 20 million units.
