Chinese EV Maker XPeng Takes on Australia’s Premium People-Mover Market With the X9 From AUD $89,900

XPeng has entered the Australian electric people-mover segment with the X9, a seven-seat flagship priced from AUD $89,900 plus on-road costs. The move positions the Guangzhou-based brand directly against the Zeekr 009 and Volkswagen ID. Buzz GTX while undercutting both by a significant margin. The X9 is only XPeng’s second model in Australia after the G6 SUV, yet its specification sheet reads like a vehicle from a segment well above its price point.

Key Highlights: 800V Architecture and Class-Leading Range

Both variants ride on XPeng’s 800V silicon carbide platform, enabling a 10–80% charge in roughly 12 minutes. The Standard Range (RWD) delivers 535 km on the WLTP cycle from a 94.8 kWh LFP battery, while the Performance AWD variant offers 580 km via a 110 kWh NMC pack and 370 kW of combined output. Active rear-wheel steering and dual-chamber air suspension come standard across the range.

The cabin seats up to seven adults on a flat floor, with 721 liters of luggage space behind the third row. Zero Gravity second-row seats, a 21.4-inch rear display, and a 27-speaker XOpera audio system round out the luxury equipment. Notably, the X9 is the first XPeng in Australia to feature the brand’s in-house Turing AI chip at 750 TOPS, powering infotainment and driver assistance through the XPilot Assist suite.

The real test comes when XPeng enters higher-volume segments with the L03 and G9L. Building service infrastructure and brand awareness outside major metro areas will determine whether the strong X9 launch translates into sustained market share.
