FAW Hongqi Refreshes the Made-in-China State-Luxury Playbook: Tiangong 08 Facelift Opens July 1 Preorders with 800V Charging and Orin-X ADAS

FAW Hongqi (一汽红旗), China’s state-owned luxury brand, has confirmed that the refreshed Tiangong 08 mid-large BEV SUV will open national preorders on July 1, 2026. The facelift is Hongqi’s most decisive product update in 18 months and signals how China’s state-owned automakers are catching up to new-force rivals on ADAS hardware, fast-charging architecture and cockpit silicon, rather than leaning solely on brand cachet and government-fleet pull. An early-bird reservation channel ran June 17-30 with deposit-required incentives ahead of the formal launch event in Changchun.

Key Highlights of the Refreshed Tiangong 08

The 2026 facelift carries over the FMEs flexible electric platform but tightens the styling and the digital stack. Front fascia and LED daytime running light signatures are redesigned, a closed grille panel replaces the previous treatment, and aerodynamic detailing has pushed the claimed drag coefficient to 0.255 Cd from 0.27. Two powertrains are confirmed: a single-motor RWD trim at 230 kW peak power and CLTC range up to 730 km, and a dual-motor AWD trim at combined 390 kW with 0-100 km/h under 5.5 seconds and 680 km of range. The high-trim variant supports 800V DC fast charging at 250 kW peak, enabling a 30% to 80% top-up in roughly 18 minutes, plus V2L at 6.6 kW.

Why the Digital Upgrade Matters

The bigger story is silicon. The facelift ships with an NVIDIA Orin-X ADAS computer, a higher-resolution forward-facing camera and an expanded 360-degree perception suite that supports full urban navigate-on-autopilot (NOA) across selected Chinese cities. This puts Hongqi within striking distance of the urban ADAS performance offered by AITO, Luxeed and Xpeng in the same price band. The cockpit moves to a dual-screen layout — 15.6-inch central touchscreen plus 12.3-inch instrument cluster — powered by twin Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chips, supporting four-to-six cabin displays and over-the-air upgrades.

Market Positioning and What’s Next

The pre-facelift Tiangong 08 launched in the 268,000-328,800 RMB band, and the refresh is expected to hold pricing flat or open slightly lower as Hongqi competes for incremental volume against Luxeed R7, Avatr 12, Tesla Model Y and BYD Sea Lion 07 EV. Early-bird buyers lock in 5,000 RMB in charging credits, an 8,000 RMB option-package discount and an extended 10-year / 200,000 km NEV battery warranty. iEVChina’s full Tiangong 08 facelift breakdown covers the trim-level specifications, the competitive landscape and the implications for China’s state-luxury BEV cohort.
