BYD Sealion 08: 800V Flagship Sedan with 900 km Range, 3.3s 0-100, Q2 2026 Launch

by codydbadmin · June 10, 2026

BYD has released official images of the “Haifeng Purple” (海雾紫) colorway for the Sealion 08 — its all-new flagship sedan for the Ocean Network. The Sealion 08 is built on BYD’s 800V high-voltage platform, marking the first time an Ocean Network model gets the ultra-fast-charging architecture. With dual-motor all-wheel drive at 510 kW, a 0-100 km/h time of 3.3 seconds and up to 900 km of CLTC range on the pure-electric variant, the Sealion 08 is BYD’s most technically advanced sedan to date. It will officially launch in Q2 2026.

The Ocean Network is BYD’s styling-led sub-brand, distinct from the Dynasty Network’s more formal aesthetic. The Sealion 08 replaces the Seal EV in the lineup and moves upmarket to compete with the NIO ET7, Luxeed S7 and Xiaomi SU7 Max in China’s premium BEV sedan segment.

Design: Ocean Network’s Most Dramatic Look Yet

The Sealion 08 uses an all-new exterior design language. The front fascia carries a closed grille panel flanked by dramatic wavy LED headlight clusters that give the car a pronounced aerodynamic face. The full-width through-style taillights mirror the front design exactly. The silhouette is a low-slung fastback with a sloping roofline that flows into a short trunk — giving the car a strong visual link to the Porsche Taycan school of sports-sedan proportions.

At 5,150 mm long, 1,999 mm wide and 1,505 mm tall with a 3,030 mm wheelbase, the Sealion 08 is a full-size sedan comparable to the BMW 5 Series in exterior footprint. The interior is finished in a light palette with a floating center console, a new-style three-spoke multifunction steering wheel, a suspended central touchscreen, a full LCD instrument cluster and a built-in car refrigerator — a hallmark of Chinese flagship EVs in 2026.

Powertrain: 800V Platform, Blade Battery Gen 2, 900 km Range

Two powertrain options will be offered:

  • BEV (800V): Second-generation Blade Battery, single- or dual-motor AWD, peak 510 kW, 0-100 in 3.3s, CLTC range up to 900 km, BYD’s flash-charging technology (supports charge rates up to ~270 kW)
  • PHEV (DM-i hybrid): 1.5T turbo engine + dual motors, combined peak 400 kW, 45.36 kWh LFP battery, 400 km CLTC pure-electric range, 1,000 km total range

The 800V architecture is BYD’s answer to the 800V platforms already deployed by competitors like the Porsche Taycan, Hyundai Ioniq 6 and Xiaomi SU7 Ultra. At public DC fast chargers capable of 250-400 kW, an 800V car can replenish roughly 250 km of range in around 14 minutes — dramatically faster than the 30-40 minute sessions typical of 400V EVs.

DiSus-Z Air Suspension and Rear-Wheel Steering

For the first time on an Ocean Network model, BYD fits the Sealion 08 with the DiSus-Z intelligent air suspension and rear-wheel steering. The air suspension continuously adjusts damping rates based on road-surface scans from the forward-facing camera — a system comparable to Mercedes-Benz’s Active Body Control. Rear-wheel steering (typically ±4°) reduces the turning circle significantly and improves high-speed lane-change stability.

Together, these features position the Sealion 08 as a genuine luxury-segment contender rather than just a technology showcase.

Interior: Ocean Aesthetics 2.0 Cabin

The “Ocean Aesthetics 2.0” (海洋美学2.0) interior introduced on the Sealion 08 sets a new benchmark for the Ocean Network. The cabin uses a generous application of soft-touch materials, light-colored leather upholstery, brightwork trim and wood-grain inlays. The 9.2-inch full LCD instrument cluster, a large floating center screen (likely 15.6 inches), the steering wheel and the refrigerator are all integrated into a clean, horizontal dashboard architecture.

Smart-cabin software is handled by BYD’s latest DiLink OS, supporting OTA updates, voice assistant, in-car app ecosystem and smartphone connectivity. For context on how BYD is leveraging its premium technology on the global stage, see BYD new-market entries report.

How the Sealion 08 Fits Into the 2026 BYD Lineup

The Sealion 08 occupies a strategic gap between the Seal EV (now aging) and the Han EV (DM-i/PHEV flagship). BYD’s current sedan range spans from ¥99,800 (Seal 06 GT) to ¥249,800 (Han L). The Sealion 08 is expected to price from ¥180,000-250,000 (US$24,800-34,500), competing with the Xiaomi SU7 (¥219,900-299,900), NIO ET5 (¥298,000) and Luxeed S7 (¥249,800-379,800).

With 900 km of range on the flagship BEV and the Q2 launch date, the Sealion 08 is likely to feature prominently in our our May 2026 China top 10 sales analysis as one of the most capable Chinese EVs in the ¥180K+ segment this year.
