BYD’s Sea Lion 08 Interior Debut Targets ¥300K Premium SUV Segment With 2nd-Gen Blade Battery

by codydbadmin · August 2, 2026

BYD is preparing to disrupt the premium 6-seat SUV segment with the Sea Lion 08, its first ocean-series flagship positioned at ¥300,000–¥400,000. The interior was officially unveiled on July 31, 2026, revealing a cabin designed to challenge the Li Auto L9 and AITO M9 at a significantly lower price point.

The Sea Lion 08 debuted externally at the Beijing Auto Show in April 2026 and is expected to go on sale as early as August 2026. BYD’s Ocean Network general manager Zhang Zhuo described the cabin philosophy as “expansive space, luxury upon entry” — a clear signal that BYD is no longer content to compete only in the mass-market segment.

The 6-seat 2+2+2 layout features individual captain’s chairs in both the second and third rows, with zero-gravity rear seats offering multi-angle recline and massage functions. A ceiling-mounted entertainment screen — a first for the BYD brand — targets rear-seat passengers, while the floating center display retains BYD’s signature rotating form factor.

The design language is a notable step up from the Sea Lion 07, with soft-touch materials, ambient lighting, and a simplified center console that eliminates physical buttons in favor of voice and touch control.

2nd-Generation Blade Battery: The Manufacturing Edge

The Sea Lion 08 will be the first Ocean-series model to feature the second-generation Blade Battery, unveiled at BYD’s Technology Day in March 2026. Key upgrades include approximately 15–20% higher energy density, flash charging from 10% to 97% in under 10 minutes, and enhanced thermal stability. The battery uses CTB (Cell-to-Body) integration, where the pack serves as a structural element of the chassis.

The BEV version is expected to offer 650–750 km of CLTC range from a 100–120 kWh pack. A DM-p plug-in hybrid variant will pair a 1.5T turbo engine with dual electric motors for over 400 kW of combined output.

BYD’s Cost Advantage Could Reshape the Segment

BYD’s vertical integration — spanning battery, motor, and semiconductor production — could allow the Sea Lion 08 to undercut competitors by ¥50,000–¥100,000 while offering comparable specifications. The premium 6-seat SUV segment has been one of the fastest-growing niches in China’s NEV market, with models priced above ¥300,000 accounting for approximately 12% of total NEV sales in H1 2026.
