Dongfeng’s Mengshi M817 Facelift Targets the Tank 700 Volume Gap on June 27 — Bigger Battery, More Power, Sharper ADAS

Dongfeng has confirmed a June 27, 2026 launch for the facelift Mengshi M817, packaging upgrades across powertrain, intelligent driving, chassis safety and cabin refinement onto the brand’s mid-flagship rugged-luxury SUV. The military-derived Mengshi (猛士, “Warrior”) brand has been Dongfeng’s premium off-road play since its 2023 civilian relaunch — and the M817 facelift is the clearest attempt yet to close the volume gap with GWM’s Tank 700.

What Actually Changes

Dealer briefing materials confirm five upgrade vectors. Battery capacity is expected to step up from the outgoing 50 kWh EREV pack to a 60–65 kWh ternary configuration, lifting CLTC pure-electric range from roughly 200 km to over 280 km. Combined dual-motor peak output rises from approximately 400 kW to above 450 kW, putting the M817 on parity with Tank 700 Hi4-T and Stelato G9 EREV variants on raw performance. The sensor stack adds LiDAR units; whether the production car continues with Huawei ADS or shifts to a Dongfeng in-house intelligent-driving alternative is the single most-watched specification for the launch event. Chassis reinforcement and cabin refinement complete the spec sheet, addressing buyer feedback on the outgoing model’s structural toughness and on-road manners.

Why the Volume Gap Matters

Mengshi M-series volume has run roughly 600 to 1,000 units per month through H1 2026 — respectable for a niche brand, but a fraction of the 5,000+ monthly cadence Tank 700 has been clearing. The facelift is calibrated for exactly this gap. Three things have to land for Mengshi to convert: a 600,000–800,000 RMB price band held intact (about 82,800 to 110,300 USD), competitive ADAS positioning against Tank 700 Hi4-T and the rumored Stelato G9 EREV, and credible brand storytelling around the military-vehicle heritage that is unique to Mengshi but has not yet been monetized at the pace BYD’s Yangwang has executed.

Likely Trim Hierarchy

Industry watchers expect three trims: an M817 Pro near 620,000 RMB (about 85,500 USD) with a single- or dual-motor base setup; an M817 Max around 720,000 RMB (about 99,300 USD) adding dual-motor and a 3-LiDAR ADAS configuration; and an M817 Ultra near 820,000 RMB (about 113,100 USD) with tri-motor or 4-LiDAR off-road specialist tuning. The June 27 launch sits three weeks ahead of the rumored Stelato G9 EREV final-spec reveal and just before GWM’s expected Tank 700 mid-life refresh.
